Grey Goose is a French vodka at 40% ABV, distilled from French winter wheat and made with spring water drawn from Gensac in the Cognac region. Both of those facts matter to the taste: wheat gives a softer, rounder vodka than rye or potato, and the water source is part of why it finishes so cleanly.

Good vodka is not flavourless, and this one is a useful demonstration. There is a soft wheat character, a light citrus note and a faint almond quality on a smooth, clean finish. It has texture — it feels rounded in the mouth rather than sharp — which is what people are actually paying for at this price.
