Corona Extra is the pale lager that made Cervecería Modelo's clear glass bottle recognisable worldwide. It is brewed in Mexico from malted barley, hops, corn and yeast, and it sits at 4.5% ABV, which is lighter than most standard North American lagers and a large part of why it drinks so easily.

The beer is deliberately restrained. The malt character is soft rather than bready, the hopping is low, and the finish is short and clean instead of bitter. That makes it a lager people drink cold and quickly rather than one they sit and analyse. The lime wedge that almost always arrives with it is a serving custom, not part of the recipe, and it adds a citrus edge that plays against the light malt.
