Bulleit Bourbon is a Kentucky straight bourbon at 45% ABV, and it sits at the opposite end of the bourbon spectrum from a wheated whiskey like Maker's Mark. Bulleit is a high-rye bourbon: its mash bill carries a notably high proportion of rye alongside the corn.

Rye is the spice grain, and you can taste the difference immediately. There is rye spice and black pepper up front, vanilla and oak behind it, and a dry finish instead of a sweet one. At 45% it has the backbone to carry that spice rather than have it flatten out.
